Who is needed for this to exist

The roles

• Clinical principal investigator — psychiatrist or addiction specialist with access to people in treatment. This is the role that unlocks everything else: without it there is neither ethics approval nor recruitment.
• Psychophysiologist or cognitive neuroscientist — task design, electrophysiological measures, perturbation protocols.
• Statistician with time-series experience — state-space models, estimation with uncertainty, intensive longitudinal data. The second critical role, and the one most often underestimated.
• Data infrastructure and analysis — synchronised acquisition, storage, estimation engine, portal.
• Study coordination — recruitment, adherence, sample collection on schedule.
• Analytical laboratory — biochemical markers, as an external service.
• Neurobiologist, optional — mechanistic arm on cell cultures, if the decision is to look for the biological why and not only the dynamics.
• Instrumentation engineering — measurement nodes, firmware, synchronisation, a latency test bench. This role is open to outside contributions too: what is needed, and in what form, is set out on the Instruments page.

Technical requirements

• Acquisition from multiple sensors with a single, verifiable time reference.
• Storage with provenance, calibration and algorithm version for every derived value.
• An estimation engine that returns parameters with their uncertainty.
• An environment compliant with health-data processing, with key separation.

The choice between wired, Bluetooth or other links comes later: it depends on data rate and required timing precision, which are scientific decisions before they are technical ones.

What the author of these pages brings
